I'm writing to let you know what a fabulous job Susan and her team did for our family on our recent trip to Maui. Susan made it special as it was a multi-milestone trip for our family, from birthdays to a silver anniversary to a life celebration. Susan knows Hawaii like no one else we've worked with. Traveling with teenagers can be challenging, but Susan's suggestion of the Kaanapali Shores condo and location was spot on. We wanted to do a luau as this was our children's first visit, and her recommendation in Wailea was perfect. Restaurant recommendations were tailored to the family, from "special" places to moderately priced that would accommodate finicky children's palates. But the most special treat was when we told her we wanted to renew our vows. Susan put us in touch with a local Hawaiian who conducts ceremonies, and we had the most special memory with our children as witnesses on a beach at sunset. Her contact took the time to explain to us and our children the meaning behind the words and ceremony. We got a personal touch at a cost that was much less than we were told by others a similar ceremony would run. We have priceless memories and the logistics went without a hitch. Susan and her team were a pleasure to work with, even though we were 2,300 miles from her office. We called numerous times with questions and never felt that we were a bother or felt anything less than her most important client.
My 13-year-old daughter had wanted to go to Hawaii for several years. We were originally going to go with some friends last summer, but then my daughter had to have elbow surgery and we couldn’t go. I’m a very nervous traveler and not very good at planning trips on my own. But I really felt that I owed my daughter the trip and, what’s more, our cousins from Chicago were planning to be on Maui over the Christmas holidays. So I decided to screw up my courage and try to get to Hawaii (from New York no less, quite a distance for me) over Christmas break. I contacted Susan in mid to late September—which was pretty tight timing, given how busy things are in Hawaii over the holiday period.
From the moment we began speaking, I started to feel more confident and less fearful about the entire process. Susan was amazing from start to finish. She listened to all of my needs and concerns and addressed all of them. She set everything up just beautifully for us. She truly went to amazing lengths to be sure that everything met our needs. When I was worried about a particular hotel, she had a friend of hers who had just stayed there give me a call and describe it in detail (and it was, indeed, a really good choice for us). When I couldn’t make decisions about outings and restaurant reservations and so on, she just took care of all of it. All we had to do was follow the written itinerary.
Most of all, she really balanced the trip beautifully. We spent five nights on Maui at a smaller family oriented hotel—which I really liked—close enough to the larger hotel where our cousins were, but definitely more our style. We had two nights in Volcano Park and were able to take a nature walk, a hike, and a five-hour tour (all in one day) in the park. This was followed by four amazing days and nights at the Fairmont Orchid in Kona. It was without a doubt the most exciting, diverse, and also the most refreshing and rejuvenating vacation I have ever experienced.
What’s more, because I was nervous about landing in Hawaii late in the evening, exhausted from the long trip from New York, Susan broke up the flight from New York to Maui by having us spend one night in Los Angeles at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey. She and her sister not only sent a complimentary limo to take us to the hotel, but came over themselves and took us out to dinner. We had a wonderful evening together. You really can’t ask for more.
We just returned from our 2 week honeymoon in Hawaii (we visited the Big Island, Maui and Kauai). We worked with Susan for months to plan this trip, and she was absolutely incredible. We are so thankful that we found Susan through CN Traveler, as we would not have been able to plan such an incredible trip on our own.
Susan took the time to get to know to my husband and me, what we like / do not like to do, etc., so that she could plan the ideal trip for us. Each island and hotel had something different to offer, and she made sure we had an opportunity to use the best tour companies / dine at the best restaurants in each location. For example, in Maui, Susan set us up with this incredible tour guide (Richard) to take us along the Road to Hana, as we didn't want to drive on our own. What a smart move. We were extremely grateful to have Richard there with us, as it wouldn't have been the same experience with my husband concentrating on the road the whole time, missing out on the incredible sites. In short, our trip included a few activities (a sailing / snorkeling trip to the island of Lanai from Maui; Road to Hana in Maui; and a volcano tour on the Big Island) coupled with pure relaxation, which is exactly what we wanted. And while there were many companies to choose from for the activities, Susan hand-picked the ones we used, which were simply the best.
In terms of hotels, we stayed at the Mauna Kea on the Big Island, the Four Seasons in Maui, and the St. Regis Princeville in Kauai. Every hotel knows Susan well and ensures her clients get the best treatment. We truly felt special while we were there.
We are so extremely thankful to Susan and her team at Martins Travel. While they work with so many different people on a daily basis, Susan made us feel like we were her only client.
While our honeymoon may be over, this is not the last time we will be working with Susan, as we are already talking about our next trip to Hawaii! ;-)
